Broncos head coach Vance Smith has a message for offensive coordinator Mike McCoy after he was hired as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator.
Smith is a former Broncos assistant who has been with the team since 2010.
He was a player/quarterback for the team before going to Washington.
He has experience coaching the passing game and was the coordinator for the Colts in 2016.
McCoy is the 49ers offensive coordinator who has experience as an offensive coordinator and was a tight ends coach in San Francisco.
He also worked under the Bears and the Browns.
Smith said it will be difficult to make changes to McCoy’s offense if McCoy is the Raiders offensive coordinator moving forward.
“The challenge is you have a player like that in your building, and you want to keep them,” Smith said.
“You want to make sure they’re in the right place and working in the correct systems, so we have to be cognizant of that.
It’s going for sure to be a challenge.”
Smith said McCoy will have a lot of help from the 49er offensive line.
“I think that’s the only way they can do it,” Smith added.
“We’re going to have to bring a lot more help than they do to it.
They’ve got a lot to give.”
The Broncos have been the team to beat in the AFC West for the past four years and are the only team with two Super Bowl appearances.
