The Hindu reports that a firefighting pump on the outskirts of New Delhi caused damage to several houses.
The fire was started by a man and a woman who tried to use the pump to cool their hot house, The Hindu reported.
The incident took place on Sunday evening.
A senior official of the city-based fire department said the pump was set ablaze due to lack of maintenance of the pump.
The pump is used to cool the house after which it is fed to the other side of the house.
The pumps work by supplying water to the houses through pipes and the houses are cooled by the water from the pump, the official said.
